Eagle's Nest Renamed "McConkey's"

Eagle’s Nest renamed “McConkey’s”

In honor of fallen legend Shane McConkey, Squaw Valley renamed the infamous run on top of KT-22, “McConkey’s.” The dedication ceremony took place on Saturday October 3, 2009. On a chilly fall day, a group of around 100 friends and family including; Shane’s father Jim, his mother Glenn and wife and daughter Sherry and Ayla McConkey made the hike from the base of KT-22 to the top. The group then assembled on the narrow peak where Sherry and Scott Gaffney poured a box of Shane’s ashes into the wind. The crowd cheered. On top of the line a memorial eagle was built by Hansi Standteiner. The eagle paid homage to McConkey’s love of flight and his love of skiing rowdy lines. Inspiration was also drawn from the iconic photo on the cover of “Immersion.” On the days proceeding the ceremony Sherry McConkey hiked the peak several times, and on each of those times she was followed by a golden eagle, circling above her. “McConkey’s” has long been considered a classic Squaw line and was the line McConkey was skiing on Powder magazine’s tribute issue cover.

Hawaii 6.0

Here are some pumping waves from a recent trip to the North Shore of Oahu. This was a tough week of pretending to work from home and fielding e-mails and calls from a porch view of Sunset, pumping.

C-Thump B-Trip 2010

The yurt is a 20' advanced canvas yurt with taller walls and snow load upgrade to hold the average eight to ten feet of snow we get each year. It is equipped with all the dishes, pots, pans, and beds with pads for up to eight people. It has two lanterns, a three burner cook stove, and a large table with seating. There is a wood fired stove with wood to keep you nice and warm. The yurt is raised on a wood deck that is covered with carpet. The yurt provides a very relaxing and comfortable place for your winter stay

The Yurt is based out of a 20' yurt nestled in the southern Swan Mountain Range of Western Montana. It sits at an elevation of 6800 feet. The trip in is 8 miles on a Forest Service road that takes most parties 4-5 hours. There is a vast quantity of great riding terrain and a guiding service that is professional and experienced. 3 alpine bowls consisting of a large variety of terrain and aspects are easily accessed from skin tracks leaving the yurt. You can also follow the ridgeline for scenic tours or to access the unlimited potential of the surrounding basins. The abundant snow that the Swans receive each year provides for endless powder turns that will put a dreamy smile on any rider's face. If you like fresh powder, great terrain, and beautiful scenery, this is the place.

The Longest Par 3 Hole In The World

The Extreme 19th hole on Hanglip Mountain at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort in South Africa .

Insets: leading golfers Sergio Garcia, in the red shirt, on the tee and below, Retief Goosen lines up his shot.
Forget pitch and putt - this tee-off point on top of a 430m mountain in South Africa is the hardest golf shot in the world, and more than $US1 million awaits the player who can score a hole in one.
Players must take a helicopter to the top to play the longest - and highest - par three on the planet. Taking the shot also requires courage - a player needs to teeter terrifyingly close to the edge of the mammoth hillside. Indeed, the Extreme 19th Hole is so high the ball takes almost 30 seconds to reach the ground.
Channel Nine cricket commentator Mark Nicholas recently joined an elite list to have the shot in just three swings. "It was awesome, riveting and phenomenal," he said. "It's like the end of the world when you get up there and it's an awful lot of fun. "It's such an adrenalin rush taking the helicopter up and then rushing back down."
The hole is based at the Legends Golf and Safari Resort, within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in South Africa 'S north-eastern Limpopo Province . The other 18 holes were designed by world golfing legends including Trevor Immelman, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington and Australia 'S Robert Allenby.
A round of golf - including a buggy and lunch - will set you back R450 ($A70). The Extreme 19th costs is R6700 ($A1060) per four ball, that includes helicopter ride, souvenir cap and glove and a DVD of you playing the hole.
So far, no one has even come close pocketing the million-dollar prize, but Harrington became the first golfer to conquer the hole within par. Harrington said: "This is the type of innovation and excitement we need to get more people playing golf. "There aren't many new innovative ways to play the game but this is certainly one of the best. "I think this hole is awesome - I love the whole experience, the helicopter, the views, the drama and having the green the shape of Africa . "And now I've got bragging rights over all the other professionals who have played this and not managed to make a three. I love everything about it."
